A cake smash first Birthday photography session in Crowborough begins with a mini photo shoot capturing some lovely photos of your baby in clothes you specially selected for the occasion.... before the cake and mess makes an appearance.

Then it's time for the fun to begin...

For once your little one can make as much mess and eat as much cake as they want whilst I capture these memorable moments with beautiful and often funny photos. Some babies eat it, some squish it and some even sit on it, what better way to celebrate this milestone than a first Birthday cake smash/smash cake photography session in Crowborough East Sussex.

Cake-Smash

Cake smash- smash cake photo shoots in Crowborough are a unique experience and are normally done around your child's first or second birthday to mark this birthday milestone. These ages are the best age for cake smash shoots as children are still in the exploration stage of their development..... However the fun doesn't stop at these ages and older children and adults can smash a cake too!

Tub-Time

Once the cake resembles an Eton Mess and is thoroughly squished, it's then time to get baby cleaned up in the 'Splash' part of the session... a lovely warm bubbly bath complete with rubber duckies. The small bath is a secure fit for baby with a non slip bottom, and of course Mum or Dad is close by for safety. I will take photos while your little one enjoys splashing about in the bubbles.

Gold Cake Smash

1.5 hour session time -
Pre smash portraits - the smash followed by splash time with bubbles to get your little one cleaned up.
A more elaborate set up is included with the gold package using a printed background or a bigger balloon arch and more decorations/props.
A selection of outfits are available to use.
15 beautifully edited hi res digital images you download from an online gallery are included in the session. price.

Personalised film show of the chosen images set to music, delivered to your phone for sharing with family and as a 1080p hi res version for TV viewing (you may swap both posters and film show for 5 extra photos)

Basic Cake Smash

1. hour session time -

5 beautifully edited hi res digital images you download from an online gallery are included in the session price.

Please note : the cake is not included in either package because of intolerances and allergies, you don't need to spend a lot and a supermarket cake can be used (please ask for advice before buying/arranging the cake)

For both packages - Just £15 for each extra digital image that are chosen in addition to the number of images given with the cost of shoot. Purchasing extra images is not compulsory and you are not tied to purchasing extra images in multiples.

How to prepare for the cake smash photo session

I do not provide the cake in case of any allergies. Cake with regular soft frosting is ideal. Avoid frozen cakes and hard chocolate icing. Small cakes 5 to 8 inches work best (no bigger and not too tall). Choose a light colour sponge not chocolate as this can look quite dull against all the glitz of the clothing and decorations, and can also look like your baby is covered in poop! Don't break the bank and spend a lot on the cake, within 20 minutes your beautiful cake will look like an Eton Mess! Do not use a cake with hundreds & thousands as babies really hate these, also do not use a cake with tiny sweet toppings as these can be a choke hazard. Avoid harsh icing colours...deep blue, red, orange, dark green as these taint the skin,lips and tongue and don't look great in the photos.

As your baby is not accustomed to smashing up a cake (are any of us?!) and even eating icing, it can quite often lead to more serious faces as they concentrate on picking out and tasting the icing for the first time. You should get a small cheap cake and practice at home, letting them get used to the idea that smashing up a cake is fun and icing is yummy... this will avoid the disappointment of no smiles and concentrating faces in the photos. If you are ordering a cake for the smash, make sure you give plenty of notice to your cake maker and ask for it to be presented on a circular board, also ask for it to not be overly cold as ice cold icing is hard to get into for little fingers.

Some more sensitive babies can often be afraid of balloons, you should blow up some balloons and let your baby become accustomed to the feel of them. If your baby is afraid you should let me know prior to the session.

Think about the colour theme you'd like to use and let me know in advance. Pick a pre-shoot outfit that matches your cake smash colour scheme, I can provide a small number of outfits to match your session, I will discuss this with you when you decide on the colour scheme. The cake smash price is for a theme based around balloons and decorations, for a more elaborate theme and printed backdrop please contact me to discuss options and prices.
