Your little one turns one only once, it's a significant milestone in their life so....
It's time to get messy!
If you're looking for a 1st Birthday cake smash photo session in Crowborough you are at the right place. As a cake smash photographer based in Crowborough, I specialise in capturing this unforgettable milestone. A first birthday cake smash photography session near you begins with a mini photo shoot, capturing some lovely photos of your baby in clothes you’ve specially selected for the occasion... before the cake and mess make an appearance.

Then it's time for the fun to begin...
For once your little one can make as much mess and eat as much cake as they want whilst I capture these memorable moments with beautiful and often funny photos. Some babies eat it, some squish it and some even sit on it, what better way to celebrate this milestone than a first Birthday cake smash/smash cake photography session in Crowborough East Sussex.

FREE TUB TIME
Once the cake resembles an Eton Mess and is thoroughly squished, it's then time to get baby cleaned up in the 'Splash' part of the session... a lovely warm bubbly bath complete with rubber duckies. The small bath is a secure fit for baby with a non slip bottom, and of course Mum or Dad is close by for safety. I will take photos while your little one enjoys splashing about in the bubbles.

How to prepare for the 1st Birthday cake smash photo session in Crowborough East Sussex.
PRE-BOOK YOUR CAKE SMASH SESSION FOR AROUND 11 MONTHS OLD- we want to catch them just before they find their feet. Once they’re walking, it's less 'cake smash' and more 'cake escape!. This also gives me time to get the images back to you in time for the celebrations.
HOW MUCH IS A 1ST BIRTHDAY CAKE SMASH PHOTO SESSION?

What cake is best for a cake smash?
I do not provide the cake in case of any allergies. Cake with regular soft frosting is ideal. Avoid frozen cakes and hard chocolate icing. Small cakes 5 to 8 inches work best (no bigger and not too tall). Choose a light colour sponge not chocolate as this can look quite dull against all the glitz of the clothing and decorations, and can also look like your baby is covered in poop! Don't break the bank and spend a lot on the cake, within 20 minutes your beautiful cake will look like an Eton Mess! Do not use a cake with hundreds & thousands as babies really hate these, also do not use a cake with tiny sweet toppings as these can be a choke hazard. Avoid harsh icing colours...deep blue, red, orange, dark green as these taint the skin, lips and tongue and this doesn't look great in the photos.

Keep the cake simple with plenty of buttercream:

Practice at home - As your baby is not accustomed to smashing up a cake (are any of us?!) and even eating icing, it can quite often lead to more serious faces as they concentrate on picking out and tasting the icing for the first time. You should get a small cheap cake and practice at home, letting them get used to the idea that smashing up a cake is fun and icing is yummy... this will avoid the disappointment of no smiles and concentration faces in the photos. If you are ordering a cake for the smash, make sure you give plenty of notice to your cake maker and ask for it to be presented on a circular board, also ask for it to not be overly cold as ice cold icing is hard to get into for little fingers.
Accustom baby to balloons -Some more sensitive babies can often be afraid of balloons, you should blow up some balloons and let your baby become accustomed to the feel of them. If your baby is afraid you should let me know prior to the session.
What colour scheme /theme to choose- Think about the colour theme you'd like to use and let me know in advance. Pick a pre-shoot outfit that matches your cake smash colour scheme, I can provide a small number of outfits to match your session, I will discuss this with you when you decide on the colour scheme. There are two price packages for the cake smash session, to read about these options go to my cake smash page .
Lots of set up ideas in an online gallery-I will provide you with a link to an online gallery with lots of ideas on colour schemes and themes I've previously done.
If you wish to use your images for party invitations or to announce on social media, schedule your session at around 11 months of age to allow time for editing.
